New Delhi: After a decade of political uncertainty, Jammu and Kashmir is all set to welcome its first elected government since 2014. The new government will be led by the National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah who will be given the oath to the new office on Tuesday. The oath-taking ceremony is going to be a grand affair and show of strength for the opposition INDIA bloc, with a multitude of prominent political figures gracing the occasion.

According to the party insider, National Conference (NC), the party leading the coalition government in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, has extended invitations to nearly 50 dignitaries, including Congress leaders and other top-notch politicians in the opposition. All the leaders are expected to attend the ceremony at SKICC, a picturesque venue on the banks of Dal Lake.

This swearing-in ceremony marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first elected government of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In 2019, the BJP government revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, transforming it into two Union Territories, J&K and Ladakh.

“Udhav Thackeray, Malikarjun Kharge, West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee, Priyanka Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, D Raja, Sharad Pawar, MK Stalin, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal and ,” she said.

Omar Abdullah will become the first Chief Minister of the J&K Union Territory, leading a cabinet comprising nine ministers. The NC, along with its allies, has secured a majority in the assembly, paving the way for this historic moment.

The return of electoral politics almost after a decade-long rule of the centre in Jammu and Kashmir will take new shape at 11:30 am. The date and timing were announced by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha after Omar presented the letters of support from 42 NC MLAs, four independents, CPI(M) and six Congress MLAs and staked claim on the formation of government On Friday. Following the claims of government formation, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu on Sunday issued a notification to revoke the president’s rule in the region.
