Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami vowed on Monday to take strict action against what he termed “love, land, and spit jihad” to preserve the state’s spiritual identity as ‘Devbhoomi’ (Land of Gods).

He said that the original form of Uttarakhand must be maintained. The world sees Devbhoomi as a spiritual and religious place, and rising cases of land, love, and spit jihad will be dealt with strongly. “The government has instructed the administration to thoroughly investigate these issues and ensure strict measures are taken against those responsible,” he stated.

We want people to celebrate without fear

As the festive season approaches, the Chief Minister reassures citizens, stating, “We want people to celebrate without fear. They should not have to worry about spitting jihad, and we are committed to ensuring purity in everything they consume.” Reiterating his government’s stance, Dhami declared, “We will not tolerate any kind of jihad in Uttarakhand.”

‘Land jihad’ and ‘spit jihad’ will no longer work in Uttarakhand

A day earlier, Dhami made a similar pledge, calling upon educated individuals to take a stand against such immoral activities. “Religious conversion, land encroachment, and land jihad will not be allowed in Uttarakhand. Some individuals are engaging in spit jihad, but we will not tolerate this in our state,” the Chief Minister said. At an event in Kichha, Udham Singh Nagar, on Sunday, Dhami stated, “‘Land jihad’ and ‘spit jihad’ will no longer work in Uttarakhand.”

Dhami’s remarks came after the arrest of two brothers, Naushad Ali and Hasan Ali, from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, accused of spitting in a tea vessel before serving it to customers in Mussoorie.

Uttarakhand would soon implement the UCC

The Chief Minister also highlighted his government’s commitment to implementing tough but necessary reforms, such as the anti-copying and anti-riot laws. Speaking on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), he emphasized that it is not intended to harass anyone. He reaffirmed that Uttarakhand would soon implement the UCC, making it the first state to do so in Independent India. He stated that the people of Uttarakhand had given his government a mandate to implement the UCC, and his government would do so in its entirety.
