Washim: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday criticised Congress’s approach towards the Banjara community and other marginalised groups in the country. He accused Congress of sidelining communities like the Banjaras after independence and maintaining a discriminatory attitude. He said that the party was being run “by a gang of Naxalites”.

“It was the responsibility of Indian govt to restore the name and pride of the Banjara community after independence. However, the Congress govts alienated Banjaras from the mainstream communities. Congress’s thinking has been foreign from the very beginning. Like the British rule, this Congress family also does not consider Dalits, backward and tribals as their equals. They feel that India should be ruled by only one family. That is why they have always maintained a derogatory attitude towards the Banjara community,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Washim, Maharashtra, launched initiatives related to the Banjara community and the agricultural sector. His visit coincided with Navratri, a festival dedicated to the goddess Durga, and he began his visit by seeking blessings at the temple of Mata Jagdamba. He also visited the samadhis of two respected saints, Sant Sewalal Maharaj and Sant Ramrao Maharaj, where he paid his respects.

Speaking about his experience, the Prime Minister said, “Today on Navratri, I have had the good fortune of receiving the blessings of Mata Jagdamba at her temple. I have also visited the samadhis of Sant Sewalal Maharaj and Sant Ramrao Maharaj and taken their blessings. I bow my head in respect to both these great saints. Today is also the birth anniversary of the great warrior and queen of Gondwana, Durgavati ji. Last year the country celebrated her 500th birth anniversary, I also salute Rani Durgavati.”

Prime Minister Modi praised the Banjara community for their rich contributions to India’s cultural heritage. He highlighted the community’s involvement in multiple sectors such as art, tradition, spirituality, trade, and commerce. He also acknowledged the role of Banjaras in preserving India’s culture over centuries.

PM Modi tries his hands on dhol

“The Banjara community has played a significant role in enriching the cultural heritage of India. In every sector, be it art, tradition, spirituality, trade and commerce, people from the Banjara community have made immense contributions. I congratulate all of you for the Banjara Heritage Museum. Modi worships the one whom no one asked about. Our Banjara community has played a huge role in the social life of India, in the journey of India’s construction. Our Banjara community has given many such saints who have given immense energy to the spiritual consciousness of India. Generation after generation, for hundreds and thousands of years, this community has been preserving and enhancing the culture and traditions of India,” he said.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi launched several projects related to agriculture and animal husbandry, worth around Rs 23,300 crore. These initiatives aim to improve the livelihood of farmers and boost the agricultural economy in the region.
