Udaipur: A woman was killed by a leopard on Tuesday morning in the Gogunda area of Rajasthan’s Udaipur, making her the seventh victim of such attacks in recent days. Following the development, Rajasthan Wildlife Department officials said the leopard responsible for such incidents has “become a man-eater”. An order has been issued to kill the animal.

According to an Indian Express report, the deceased woman has been identified as Kamala Kunwar. The 55-year-old was reportedly cleaning her courtyard when the animal attacked her and dragged her out of the house in the morning. On hearing her screams, her family members and locals started searching for her in the nearby forest. The leopard then left the spot and found people approaching it.

The woman was found to have a deep wound on her neck. Notably, a temple priest was killed by a leopard a day earlier. Speaking to the paper, Chief Wildlife Warden Pawan Kumar Upadhyay said that orders have been issued to shoot the leopard. Sharing further details, he said that while army personnel were called in to shoot the leopard, The police and locals will also help in finding the leopard.

In the meantime, upset over recent killings due to leopard attacks, locals tried to block National Highway 27. Even as they dispersed after the police assurance, the locals refused to cremate the body of the woman.

Six cages have been put up

As many as six cages were put up in different areas. Two cages were transported from Rajsamand district and two were built in Udiapur to catch the animal . Six cameras have also been installed in different locations to check the leopard’s movement. While authorities are working on their bit to catch the leopard, locals are also using dhols to make the leopard come out of hiding.
