New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Atishi arrived on Monday to inspect the NSIC road in Kalkaji as part of the Aam Aadmi Party-led government’s initiative to make city roads pothole-free before Diwali. Atishi had on Sunday announced that all ministers, MLAs, and officials would take to the streets. Each minister will inspect one meter of the 1,400 kilometer of roads managed by the Public Works Department (PWD) over the course of a week. Following these inspections, the PWD has been tasked with eliminating potholes.

Atishi said that the goal is to make Delhi roads pothole-free by Diwali. This initiative was prompted by a letter from Arvind Kejriwal over the condition of the roads, which led to the decision in the AAP’s All Ministers Meeting to inspect and repair them. Each minister has been assigned responsibility for different areas.

Kejriwal’s letter on condition of roads

Atishi mentioned that over the past two days, both she and Arvind Kejriwal inspected roads in various parts of Delhi and found them to be in very poor condition, with numerous potholes. She added that on Friday, Kejriwal presented a letter in the assembly stating that the roads would be repaired on a war footing.

Atishi announced that starting Monday, all ministers will be on the streets; she will personally visit South and South-East Delhi. They will assess what needs to be done.

While, CM Atishi will inspect roads in Kalkaji, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj will inspect roads in Patparganj, Minister Gopal Rai will check roads in Yamuna Vihar, Kailash Gehlot will review roads in Mitaura village, Imran Hussain will inspect roads in Paharganj, and Mukesh Ahluwalia will check roads in Kanishka Vatika.

Arvind Kejriwal had written to CM Atishi on September 27, stating that during his recent inspections of Delhi’s roads, he found them to be in terrible condition. He noted that when he was arrested in March, the roads were in better shape. He mentioned that the recent heavy rains have worsened the condition of the roads and urged Atishi to inspect the roads with all the ministers to identify which ones are in need of immediate repair.
