UP nameplate model in Himachal Pradesh? Vendors told to their reveal name, identity

New Delhi: The Congress party that accused Yogi Adityanath government of dividing people by asking shopkeepers and vendors to reveal identities of businesses somewhat copied the same model in Himachal Pradesh ruled by party’s Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu.

In an order reportedly by Himachal Pradesh government, the shopkeepers and vendors have been told to display their names and identity cards sparking controversy. The Himachal government order comes after Yogi Adityanath led UP government issued an order asking all businesses to reveal their and their employees’ identity.

Himachal Public Works Department minister Vikramaditya Singh said that the food stalls and other eateries will have to reveal their identities.

The minister attributed the decision to concerns of the people keeping in view increase in outside street vendors, reported Moneycontrol online. “We have decided to make it mandatory for the street vendors to show their identity cards. These identity card will be issued similarly to the ones being issued by UP government. The state food department will check the quality of food of street vendors,” the minister said.

Purpose is to maintain peace and law and order: Minister

Reacting to the nameplate order in Himachal, Minister Vikramaditya Singh told ANI, “Keeping in view the recent incidents in Himachal Pradesh, it is duty and responsibility to maintain peace. The municipal councils have said that town vending committees should be constituted from time to time. People are welcome to Himachal for work, but maintaining the security is our responsibility. We want communal harmony and law and order to be maintained in the state.”
