Madhya Pradesh weather alert: Cyclone-induced rain expected to hit Bhopal, Jabalpur

Bhopal: A cyclone has developed in the upper atmosphere near southern Chhattisgarh after a low-pressure area weakened. According to the Meteorological Center, this weather system is causing significant activity in the region, along with two other weather systems located in different areas.

Heavy rain is expected on Thursday several districts including Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Jabalpur, and Indore division. Additionally, light rain may occur in Ujjain, Sagar, Rewa, Gwalior and Chambal divisions.

Cyclone formation near Chhattisgarh

According to the Meteorological Center, the cyclone is forming above southern Chhattisgarh, and a weather trough has stretched from Konkan to Bangladesh. There is also a shear zone, where winds blow in opposite directions, located around Telangana.

Ajay Shukla, a former senior meteorologist at the Meteorological Center, said that the combined effects of these weather systems have led to intermittent rainfall across the state. He predicts that heavy rain may continue in the districts of Indore, Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Jabalpur and Ujjain on Thursday, with the possibility of light showers in other areas as well.

Record rainfall in Madhya Pradesh

From June 1 to September 25, the state has recorded a total rainfall of 1,074.8 mm, which is 15 percent more than the normal rainfall of 937.9 mm for this period. Recent rainfall measurements include 56 mm in Khandwa, 30 mm in Mandla, and 18 mm in Damoh and Umaria. 

Other areas recorded 17 mm in Pachmarhi, 8 mm in Indore, 3 mm in Seoni and Sidhi, and 2 mm in Sagar, Gwalior, Tikamgarh, and Betul. Satna and Chhindwara received 1 mm, while Bhopal and Khajuraho recorded 0.2 mm.
