Delhi High Court seeks Puja Khedkar’s response on perjury claim by UPSC

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday (September 19) sought the response of former probationary Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Puja Khedkar on the allegation by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) that she has committed perjury by making a false statement in relation to her plea seeking anticipatory bail.

UPSC has sought initiation of inquiry and appropriate proceedings against Khedkar for offence of perjury

The UPSC, while seeking initiation of inquiry and appropriate proceedings against Khedkar in accordance with law for committing the offence of perjury, submitting that she made an absolutely false statement on affidavit in her rejoinder that the UPSC had collected her biometrics during personality tests and that she has committed perjury in another pending proceedings before the High Court.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered bythe Delhi Police against Khedkar on a complaint by the UPSC, which cancelled her candidature on July 31 and debarred her from future exams, under provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act and Right of Persons with Disability Act.

High Court has granted Khedkar interim protection from arrest till September 26

Khedkar moved the High Court against an order of a trial court refusing to grant her anticipatory bail. The High Court, while hearing her plea, has granted her interim protection from arrest in the case till September 26.

UPSC, Delhi Police have opposed Khedkar’s anticipatory bail plea

The UPSC and Delhi Police have opposed Khedkar’s plea seeking anticipatory bail. The Delhi Police has told the court that any relief to Khedkar would hinder its investigation into the deep rooted conspiracy.

The Delhi Police earlier told the High Court that Khedkar was not entitled to benefits as an “OBC+Non-Creamy Layer” candidate in the civil services examination and that her parents are not separated.

Khedkar has denied allegations in her rejoinder filed before the High Court.
