Kharge’s letter, sent to PM Modi, had raised concerns about violent and objectionable statements made by several BJP leaders, including Union Minister Ravneet Bittu, against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Kharge had emphasised the need for legal action against these leaders, describing their comments as harmful to democratic values.

What JP Nadda said

In reply to Kharge’s letter, JP Nadda accused Congress leaders of hypocrisy. Nadda wrote, “The things said by you are far from reality and truth. It seems that in your letter you have either forgotten or deliberately ignored the misdeeds of your leaders including Rahul Gandhi.”

Nadda criticised Rahul Gandhi, highlighting past remarks and actions that he deemed disrespectful. He said, “A person whose history is of abusing the entire OBC community including the Prime Minister of the country by calling them thieves, using extremely indecent words for the PM, who has talked about beating the Prime Minister with a stick in the Parliament, whose impudent mentality is known to the whole country, under what compulsion are you trying to justify that Rahul Gandhi?”

Nadda also recalled Sonia Gandhi’s earlier statement, describing PM Modi as “maut ka saudagar” (merchant of death). He accused Congress of glorifying such remarks and questioned their commitment to political integrity.

In his detailed three-page response, Nadda further criticised Congress, branding their political ideology as damaging to the nation. He said, “The product being sold in the so-called ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukaan’ of the Congress party, immersed in selfish power, is the poison of casteism, the seed of animosity, the spice of anti-nationalism and the hammer to break the country.”

Kharge’s original letter, sent on PM Modi’s birthday, was a mix of congratulations and concern. He used the occasion to draw attention to what he termed as “extremely objectionable, violent and rude statements” being made against Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. Kharge had warned that these remarks posed a serious threat to the future of democracy and the Constitution.
