100 days of Modi 3.0: BJP lists achievements, Congress takes ‘govt of U-turns’ jibe

New Delhi:  The Modi government has launched projects worth Rs 15 lakh crore in the first 100 days of its third tenure with the primary focus on rail, roads, ports and airways, an official release said today. However, the Congress countered the 100 days’ report card of the Centre by listing out contradictory points and raking up the Adani row and the issue of unemployment.

The Centre approved the construction/upgrading of 62,500 kilometers of roads and bridges to connect 25,000 unconnected villages, with central assistance of Rs 49,000 crore, the release said.

The government has approved the strengthening of India’s road network with an investment of ₹50,600 crore, including eight National High-Speed Road Corridor projects covering 936 km, it added.

In the railways and airways sector, the Centre said the Modi government approved the development of Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport besides new civil enclaves in Bagdogra, West Bengal and in Bihar’s Bita.

Congress counters Modi government’s report card

Calling it the “U-turn sarkar”, the Congress brought up recent train accidents and decisions to attack the BJP-led Centre. Speaking at a press conference, spokesperson Supirya Shrinate said, “For the last 100 days, a U-turn government has been running in the country. The democracy, Opposition and people of the country have forced this government to take a U-turn”.

“It is clear that the government’s arrogance will no longer work. If any of your decisions affect the country, it will not become a law and we will not rest until we take a U-turn on it,” she said.

The Congress claimed the decisions on UPSC lateral entry, the broadcast bill, the Waqf Board bill and the Unified Pension Scheme were some of the major U-turns of this government. She also claimed Indian Railways was a transport sector that has been destroyed during these 100 days.

“Modi government has ruined Indian Railways in 100 days. There have been 38 railway accidents in 100 days, in which 21 people have died. After the Balasore accident, it was felt that the government would learn some lessons from it and make arrangements to run the railways smoothly. But even today, not a single day passes without a railway accident. The reality is that even after 21 deaths, Kavach is being installed every 2 km every year and the country’s Railway Minister is shamelessly calling these ‘minor’ incidents,” she added.
