Earlier on Thursday, the resident doctors refused to speak to CM Mamata Banerjee even after reaching the gates of the state secretariat Nabanna, unless their demand for live streaming of the meeting was met. The state government did not allow live-streaming. It, however, said the proceedings of the meeting could be video-recorded. The option was rejected by doctors, news agency PTI reported.

Speaking further, the governor spoke his commitment to the parents of the RG Kar Hospital junior doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered last month. “I feel that the state government has failed in performing its duties. The home minister failed in her responsibility of maintaining the law and order,” the governor said. Notably, CM Mamata Banerjee is in charge of the home and health departments.

Pointing out that he has been issuing instructions to the CM under Article 167 of the Constitution, the governor further said that he had asked Banerjee to hold an emergency Cabinet meeting in the wake of the impasse.
