New Delhi: In the wake of heavy rainfall that has caused widespread flooding across several regions of Madhya Pradesh, particularly in the Gwalior-Chambal belt, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took steps to coordinate flood relief efforts. Early today morning, Scindia held a telephonic conversation with chief minister Mohan Yadav to gather vital updates on the ongoing rescue operations in the state, with a specific focus on the affected areas within the Gwalior-Chambal region.
During the call, Scindia assured the chief minister of his full support. The minister expressed concern over the damage to life, property and crops due to the relentless rains and flooding, which have caused severe disruptions in many districts.
Virtual meeting with district collectors
Following his discussion with the chief minister, Scindia chaired a virtual meeting with the collectors of Gwalior, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, and Guna. The meeting aimed to review the extent of damage and evaluate the rescue and relief measures being carried out in the flood-hit districts.

Scindia inquired about the losses suffered in terms of human casualties, livestock, and agricultural crops. He urged officials to ensure that relief funds reach every affected individual promptly and fairly. In light of the extensive crop damage, the minister directed that a thorough survey be conducted once conditions stabilise, to assess the full scale of the agricultural losses and to facilitate compensation.
Directives to state government ministers
In addition to his discussions with district officials, Scindia issued instructions to several key state government ministers, including Tulsi Silawat, Pradyuman Singh Tomar and deputy chief minister Rajendra Shukla, urging them to visit the flood-affected areas within 24 hours. He stressed the importance of on-ground presence and active coordination in ensuring that relief operations are conducted effectively and that the immediate needs of the people are addressed.
The minister also highlighted the importance of long-term strategies to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters, particularly with regard to flood management and infrastructure improvement in vulnerable areas.
