Dehradun: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, has predicted heavy rains in Bageshwar district on Wednesday. In some other districts, there may be lightning along with strong thunder and a few spells of rain.

As Uttarakhand is reeling under Monsoon season, the rains are continuing in plain and hilly parts of the state. This incessant rain has caused troubles for the people due to frequent waterlogging in cities and landslides in hills.

People are facing many challenges due to the rains

Monsoon rains persist in Uttarakhand. On Tuesday, several areas experienced hours of torrential downpours, leading to waterlogging in low-lying regions and traffic disruptions. Meanwhile, rural areas are seeing significant crop damage. There has also been an increase in incidents of house collapses and power supply disruptions, further disrupting daily life. Continuous rainfall has led to more frequent landslides, impacting the lives of those in hilly regions. The changing weather conditions have exacerbated the challenges in these areas.

IMD warns people to stay alert

The Meteorological Center’s forecast indicates heavy rain in Chamoli, Pauri, and Rudraprayag districts on Wednesday, prompting a yellow alert. Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Nainital may also experience heavy rain with thunder and lightning. The monsoon is expected to become active again from September 13, bringing heavy rain to the hill districts. The Meteorological Department has advised residents in these areas to take precautions.

126 roads are blocked in Uttarakhand

Currently, 126 roads in Uttarakhand are blocked due to landslides and rockfalls. The continuous heavy rains have caused significant disruptions, affecting transportation and daily life in the region. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and reopen the roads, but the ongoing weather conditions are making it challenging.

Pilgrim’s footfall in Char Dham shrines

As per the data available from state disaster control centre, 3124 pilgrims visited Badrinath shrine whereas Kedarnath saw 2970 pilgrims on Wednesday. In Gangotri, 2964 pilgrims reached and Yamunotri witnessed 3435 devotees despite heavy rains in the region.
