New Delhi: An official from Uttar Pradesh drowned in the Ganga River amid allegations that local divers demanded payment for their services. The delay in transferring the money, due to a lack of cash, contributed to the drowning incident. The victim has been identified as Gaurav, a Deputy Director in the Health Department. His brother is an IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, and his wife is a judge.

The accident occurred at the Naanamau Ganga ghat in Kanpur Nagar. Gaurav had gone to bathe in the Ganga with three companions on Saturday. Local divers and an NDRF team are currently involved in the search efforts for the Deputy Director in the river’s deep waters.

3 students drown in Ganga while taking selfies

In another incident recently, three students from Patna drowned in the Ganga River at Samne Ghat in Varanasi while taking selfies. The incident occurred around 1.30 am on Sunday. The victims have been identified as Vaibhav Singh (21), Rishi Singh (21) and Sona Singh (19). They had come to Varanasi with friends, and while taking selfies near a jetty, Sona fell into the river.

Vaibhav and Rishi jumped in to rescue her but were swept away by the strong currents. All three were from Patna, and Vaibhav and Rishi were planning to leave for Jaipur the same day. Local police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived early Sunday morning to assist in the rescue operation, but the search for Sona and Rishi has been complicated by the fast-flowing waters of the Ganga
